Evil Lovin’ Man (2001)

Mike Langer/M. Papierski

As Susan, Lauren, Kristin and I drove home from one of our vacations I came across a Blues station.  The Blues songs I heard that afternoon inspired me to write a Christian blues song.  I thought about the blues and what kind of Christian song would fit this style.  I thought about my sinful nature and the need I have for God’s mercy and grace.  I jotted my thoughts down using the steering wheel as a writing surface.  From those thoughts emerged this song.

I’m an evil lovin’ man.

Full of pride, guilt and sin.

I’m an evil lovin’ man.

Full of pride, guilt and sin.

Well, I’m an evil lovin’ man.

Can’t escape this rut I’m in.

I’m a judging loud mouth fool.

I decide what’s right and wrong.

I’m a judging loud mouth fool.

I criticize all day long.

Well, I’m a judging loud mouth fool.

Don’t care about the pain I cause.

Chorus

Jesus I’m so bad.

But You can change my heart.

Don’t like the man I am,

Gotta make a brand new start.

Take my wicked ways.

Pour Your love on me.

This evil lovin’ man,

Needs You to set him free.

Instrumental

Hear me now…

Well, I’m a power hungry man.

My lustful thoughts they rot my brain.

I’m a power hungry man.

My lustful thoughts they rot my brain.

Lord, I can’t stand the way I am.

I need Your mercy.  Need Your grace.

Chorus

The road is long and hard,

Not sure that I’ll succeed.

I place my hope in You,

Savior please save me.

Take my wicked ways.

Pour Your love on me.

This evil lovin’ man, needs You to set him free.

This evil lovin’ man, needs You to set him free.

Lord, please won’t You set me free…
