Farewell My Friend (1999)

Joe Halter/M. Papierski

Doyle Blanton was really my first Pastor.  His enthusiasm and love were and still are infectious.  I wrote this song after receiving the news that Doyle and his family would be moving to another church.  Doyle struggled with the move and I wanted to not only thank him but let him know that because of his spiritual leadership we would be fine.  Our family is so thankful to Dolye for his spiritual leadership.

Dear Pastor we all thank you,

For feeding us - God’s sheep.

As a shepherd of the Father,

Faithfully you’ve preached.

Through you our faith’s grown stronger,

In Jesus we’re sustained.

Although its time for you to go,

Your legacy remains.

You taught us we can fly.

That we can soar above the dark clouds,

And ride the radiance of Christ,

Into our Father’s loving arms.

Pastor don’t despair,

For you have taught us very well.

We place our trust in God our Father,

His plan for us will never fail...so...

Chorus

Farewell my friend.

It’s sad to say good-bye.

Our words cannot express to you,

The emptiness we feel inside.

May your heart be ever flowing,

With a passion for God’s call.

May you continue to be blessed,

As you have blessed us all.

Instrumental

Bridge

Through your words and through your actions,

You’ve conveyed the love of Christ.

Your tireless devotion,

Reveals a passion deep inside.

Although we say farewell,

We will see you once again.

For we know our Savior lives in us,

And soon too will we live with him...forever...so...

Chorus

May you continue to be blessed, as you have blessed us all...
