I Died for You (2002)
Joe Halter/M. Papierski

Easter caused me to focus on Jesus’ great sacrifice. His death was gruesome and painful. And His death confirmed His great love for each of us. I sought to capture the awful pain Christ suffered on our behalf and the fact that in spite of how we treated Him (and in spite of how we treat Him today) He still endures the pain of our sins and endured His brutal death on the cross. Through this period of human darkness and shame Christ’s Truth still rings out, “I die for you.”

Here I hang. Left to die.
Wrongly tried and crucified.
Your whips and thorns, your spears and spikes,
Tear my flesh. You pierce my side.
You mock my fate. You spit and swear.
Despite your hate, your sins I bear.
My blood you let. For you I bleed.
Your dead damned soul is all I see.

My heart grows weak. My legs they fail.
My lungs collapse. My body pales.
As darkness falls, the air grows cold.
The pain’s intense. Come quickly Lord.
I gasp for air but cannot breathe.
My life, my blood, they drain from me.
My Father’s Love (and) His Amazing Grace,
Demand my death your soul to save.
And so for you this price I pay…

Chorus
I died for you, that you may live forever.
I died for you, to free you from your sins.
What will you (do) choose? Accept me as your Savior.
Live My Truth, knowing that I died for you.
I died for you.

Bridge
An impure soul cannot be cleansed,
But for the blood that I have shed.
This hell I lived, I lived to die.
That you may have eternal life.
So…

Chorus (repeat)
I came to died for you…I died for you…
