You Gotta Forgive (2000)
Joe Halter/M. Papierski
I
heard a preacher make the statement that “If we cannot forgive others then we
are telling God that Christ’s death for the forgiveness of our sins was not
enough.” That struck me very hard because I was in a place of unforgiveness. I
realized if I was sincere about my belief in Christ, His death for me and my
salvation, then I had to forgive those who hurt me. Otherwise, I truly had not
accepted that Christ’s brutal death and ultimate sacrifice saved me from eternal
damnation.

Are you angry deep inside?
Is your mind filled with pride?
Keeping you enchained in pain,
Scarred for life, consumed with hate.
Transgressions kept alive,
They will grow and they will thrive.
(Un)’til at last they seize control,
Of your heart and then your soul.
We’re all kites on a string,
At the mercy (mercy) of the wind.
Flying high and tossed around,
(Then) finally crashing (crashing) to the ground.
If we will only just let go,
Of the chains (pain) that grip(s) our soul.
Then we will soar to the higher heights,
Freed by (Jesus’) Christ’s sacrifice…so…
Chorus
You gotta forgive, the stranger and your neighbor.
You got to forgive, the one who breaks your heart…breaks your heart.
You gotta forgive, yourself when you falter.
‘Cause if you cannot forgive,
Then you’re telling God’s own Son,
That His death, yes His death,
Was not enough, not enough.
That His death,
On that Cross was not enough.

If you want to follow Christ,
(Then) there’s one thing you (gotta) must know.
There’s a price that you must pay,
And it will bless you every day.
Chorus
Yes, Christ death on that Cross, Was not enough…not enough.
Was Christ death on that Cross not enough…not enough?
Will you tell Him that His death, was not enough?
You got to forgive…
